Minutes of Second Sig 32/ Pivnet Workshop Rome September the 3 rd - 4 th 1999
|

The second Workshop of Pivnet task 5/ERCOFTAC Sig 32 took place in Rome University la Sapienza on Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th of September 1999. This Workshop was the second of a serie of four which are organized each year in that frame. It was linked to the 8th International Conference on Laser Anemometry : Advances and Applications which took place also in Rome from the 6th to the 8th of September.

The aim of the Workshop was to enhance cooperative activity between the participating teams around the validation and the improvement of PIV. |

For that purpose, a list of topics of interest has been identified by the organizing committee and a questionnaire was distributed for the first workshop which took place in Lisbon in 1998. The interest was demonstrated by the fact that 48 participants were registered at the Workshop. |

This second Workshop was organized in two parts. In the first part, two invited lectures were given. Dr Okamoto, from Tokai University gave a presentation on the cooperative work going on in Japan around the development of PIV. Dr Feugnet from Thomson CSF did a presentation on recent developments in Laser technology with an emphasis on high energy, high repetition rate lasers.

In the second part, four sessions were run on various subjects of interest concerning both the development and the application of the method.

In the course of the discussion sessions, a proposal was raised by Dr Okamoto to organize a competion workshop on some up to date PIV problems. It was agreed that Pivnet and ERCOFTAC SIG32 would support such an initiative which will be further discussed at St Barbara. A working group will be establised in Europe to contribute to the definition and to the organization of the workshop.

The next Pivnet task5/ERCOFTAC Sig 32 workshop will take place in Lisbon on July the 7th and 8th 2000. It will be linked to the 10th International Symposium on Laser Techniques Applied to Fluid Mechanics which will take place from the 10th to the 13th of the same month.
